Haunted Mansion Tightrope Walker

Original Disney Haunted Mansion Design, Worn by Lindsay Brown, Photography by Boston Brown

This was a commissioned costume worn by Lindsay Evans. It was inspired by Disney’s Haunted Mansion Tightrope walker.

Many different techniques and skills were used for this particular project. All of the elements to the project took approximately 20 hours to complete.

I began with a commercial sewing pattern for the corset that was altered for the desired fitting of the bodice. Then drafted the pattern for the collar/cowl to attach to the bodice. The pink fabric was custom dyed with rit dye to create an ombre effect on the sleeves, with dyed to match the ballet slippers with the darkest color of the ombre. Once the parasol was dyed to match the lighter pink costume, and adding the lace around the edges. The parasol was reconstructed from a child's umbrella, after all of the fabric was removed, and dyed it was re-draped  and lace was added around the edges to create the parasol. The skirt of the dress was designed and heat press vinyl was cut with my cricut machine to create the flowers on the skirt.

During the fittings I was able to determine where to add the lace, embellishments, and where to add the grommets for the lacing on the corset. Placement for all of the embellishments was important for me to maintain comfortability for the wearer.
